What exactly is GardenSpirit Garden Retreat?
Nestled into the verdant North Carolina Piedmont, GardenSpirit is a seven-and-a-half acre garden retreat that is home to GardenSpirit Guesthouse, the Purple Treehouse, the Labyrinth at GardenSpirit, the GardenSpirit Organic Veggie Patch and dozens of quiet meditation paths gently opened throughout the pine forest. GardenSpirit Garden Retreat is also the welcoming space for Linda’s Passionate Possibility, ADDiva and Couples retreats and workshops.
- a women’s gathering place for workshops, classes and meditation.
- a sacred place for personal retreats and solitude (day or overnight).
- a garden haven for women who need to reconnect to the earth to find themselves again.
- a refuge for writers who need peace and quiet to finish their works.
- Linda’s coaching alcove for clients who live within driving (or walking or biking) distance.
Most of all, GardenSpirit Garden Retreat is a place of renewal, recommitment and rejuvenation for body and soul.
OK, I’m intrigued, tell me more
GardenSpirit Garden Retreat began life as a three-acre tract of land in northern Durham County that was (and is) the private home of Linda and Victor Roggli. Over the years, the Rogglis bought adjacent property, created an extensive garden, planted hundreds of perennials, flowering shrubs and trees, cut meditation paths through the woods and in 2006, completed a seven-circuit outdoor labyrinth.
In August 2006, Linda and Victor purchased a suburban home that (almost) adjoined their five-and-a-half acres and created GardenSpirit Guesthouse. The Guesthouse land added two more acres to the property.
NOTE: the physical address of GardenSpirit and the Guesthouse is not published on this website in order to maintain its relaxed atmosphere (uninvited visitors are an intrusion). For details about the location, email Linda at linda@lindaroggli.com — she’ll welcome your questions!
GardenSpirit Guest house
Back in August, 2006, the Guest house was a Plain Jane "five-four and a door" house (apologies to all you "Janes" out there with five windows on the top floor, four windows on the bottom floor and a door in between). By the end of December, it had become a magical cottage with amazing serenity and comfort.
Everything is "soft" at GardenSpirit Retreat Guest house — a pure expression of Linda’s deepest self. There are fluffy blankets, soft cushions, overstuffed furniture and brand new pillowtop mattresses.
Some highlights:
The periwinkle sunroom overlooks the private, heavily wooded back yard. Floor to ceiling windows plus skylights flood the room with natural light. New bamboo floors are perfect for yoga, meditation. movement or dance.
A purple dining room was designed with English afternoon tea in mind. Just take a wide-brimmed hat off the wall and pull on your white gloves - lifted pinky optional but recommended!
The Magical Midnight Massage Nook is tucked into a corner of the house, accented with shimmering stars and ready to relax those tense muscles with music and massage.
Outside on the deck, there is dining for 10 plus built-in benches and additional deck space for dancing, sunbathing and howling at the moon. The oversized hot tub holds eight (10 if you get cozy) and is a great place to listen to the mellow wind chimes.
The Twinkling Purple Treehouse is big enough for grownups and has two chairs, two ottomans and a table - perfect for a two-some conversation or solo journal writing.
The Labyrinth at GardenSpirit Garden Retreat
Linda personally designed, supervised and was an integral partner in construction of the seven-circuit Celtic style labyrinth (yes, most of that mulch was laid by her). The GardenSpirit labyrinth is open to the public by appointment and is available to all retreat/workshop participants and facilitators.
Labyrinths are different from mazes — they are flat, with one path in and out. No surprises, no confusion. Labyrinths offer a calm place to center your soul and often provide surprising insights. To make an appointment to walk the labyrinth, call GardenSpirit at 919-309-9300 or email Linda at labyrinth@lindaroggli.com.
